Yoko Ono

Japan

Ono was born in Tokyo in 1933, and schooled in post-World War II Japan. Her experience of the effects of the war on Japan seems to have affected her path in life. She was always a rebel, being the first female philosophy student in her Japanese university. She moved to New York and became involved with the Fluxus movement, which mixed visual art, poetry and music together, expanding concepts of high-art. http://www.yoko-ono.com.
